Guided Hiking Tours

Small groups, a guide who knows the forest and the trails you would not find on your own

Summer · Whistler and the Sea to Sky

Whistler's best hikes are not always the best known, and the ones that are can be hard to time. A guided hike takes care of both: transport, the trailhead, the pace and the stories, with a certified guide and a group of no more than eight. Whistler Eco Tours runs half-day walks to the valley's landmarks from easy two-hour strolls to moderate four-hour treks.

For anything longer or higher, the guides at Mountain Skills Academy take on the big days such as Garibaldi Lake, and for a self-guided day our hiking guide ranks the trails by distance and difficulty.

The walks

The Ancient Cedars Hike is the one to do if you do one: three and a half hours with an hour of steady climbing on Cougar Mountain to a grove of cedars that were old before Europeans reached the coast. The Train Wreck Adventure is two easy hours along the Cheakamus River to the graffiti-covered boxcars that have sat in the forest since 1956, crossing the suspension bridge on the way.

The Rainforest Walk to Cheakamus Lake is four hours of gentle trail to a glacial lake, and the Waterfall Explorer heads south to Nairn Falls near Pemberton. The Nature Walk around Lost Lake is the easiest of all and a good first morning for families. Departures are generally at 9am and 1pm.

A private guide can be hired for a custom day, with hotel pickup and drop-off and a route chosen for your group. Guides are first-aid trained and carry the interpretation that turns a walk into a tour: the trees, the geology, the history and, from a safe distance, the bears.
