Sea to Sky Highway
Live road reports, highway cameras, conditions and directions for the drive from Vancouver
Checking DriveBC for the latest reports
The beautiful hour and a half to two-hour drive from Vancouver to Whistler is the start of your adventure, where you can see the waters of Howe Sound, snow-capped peaks, waterfalls and canyons. This is a mountain highway, a route where rain, snow and even wildlife can affect driving conditions. From Oct 1 to Mar 31 winter tires with an M+S or mountain snowflake symbol are required.
Road reports from DriveBC, Government of British Columbia, via the Open511 feed. Timing is DriveBC's and can lag events on the ground, so treat a clear board as a good sign, not a guarantee.
Weather from Open-Meteo, updated hourly. Mountain weather changes fast, so if snow is forecast, check again just before you leave.

Check the road, then enjoy the drive
Conditions on the Sea to Sky can change quickly, especially between November and March. The report at the top of this page pulls DriveBC's current incidents, closures and roadwork for Highway 99 between Horseshoe Bay and Pemberton, and the cameras show you what the road looks like right now. For the wider picture, including the drive out to the airport, use DriveBC.
Winter tires are required on this route from October 1 to March 31. They must carry the M+S or mountain snowflake symbol and have at least 3.5 mm of tread; chains are the alternative. If you are renting a car, confirm with the rental company that it has winter tires before you collect it.
Give yourself time to stop. Shannon Falls, the Sea to Sky Gondola and Brandywine Falls are all right beside the highway, and our Sea to Sky waterfalls guide has the best of them.
