4x4 Sightseeing Tours
A guide at the wheel, Blackcomb's alpine roads and the Horstman Glacier at the top
This is the mountain tour for people who want the alpine without the effort. Canadian Wilderness Adventures holds access to roads on Blackcomb that no public vehicle can use, and their guides drive you up them in open Jeeps to around 6,000 feet, talking wildlife, glaciers and Whistler history along the way.
It suits every age in the group. Grandparents and small children ride the same tour, nobody needs a licence, and the two-hour round trip fits neatly between breakfast and lunch or as a sunset outing before dinner in the Village.
Blackcomb from the passenger seat
The Jeep climbs from the base through the forest and out above the treeline, with stops at viewpoints along the way. On a clear day the Horstman Glacier and the peaks of Garibaldi Provincial Park fill the horizon, and the guides know where the bears, deer and marmots tend to be at each time of day.
The Blackcomb Sunset Jeep Tour leaves in the early evening, when the light on the glacier is at its best and the valley below is starting to glow. The Salmon Bake by Jeep extends the outing to four hours and finishes with a West Coast salmon dinner and live entertainment.
Bring a warm layer even in July. The top of the road is high enough that the temperature can be ten degrees cooler than the Village.
