Axe Throwing

A coach on every lane, an hour of throwing and a bar for afterwards, five minutes from the Village

Year round · Function Junction, indoors

Axe throwing is the rare activity that works for everyone in the group at once: it is indoors, it takes an hour, nobody needs to be fit or experienced, and there is a bar. Forged Axe in Function Junction is Whistler's original venue, with a coach on every lane who teaches the throw in the first ten minutes and runs games and trick shots for the rest.

Drop-in sessions run every day; parties and buyouts scale from twenty people to the whole venue. It is the obvious rainy-day plan, the standard stag and hen booking and, at ten and up with a parent present, a solid family outing.

Learn the throw, then compete

Sessions start with the safety rules and the technique: how to hold the axe, where to stand, how to release. Most people are sticking it in the target within a few throws. The coach then runs the group through games, from straight scoring to trick shots and head-to-head rounds, and keeps the lane moving so everyone gets plenty of throws.

The bar serves beer, cocktails, coolers and the house specials, including champagne opened with an axe and a shot-ski. Under-nineteens are welcome to throw with a parent or guardian in the room for the whole session; drinking is nineteen and over with ID.

The venue is on Alpha Lake Road in Function Junction, about five minutes' drive south of the Village with free parking. Walk-ins are taken when there is space, but lanes fill up in the evenings and on wet days, so book ahead, and groups of ten or more must book.
