Whistler Bungee
Fifty metres of air between a purpose-built bridge and the Cheakamus River, every day of the year
The Whistler Bungee bridge crosses the Cheakamus River canyon at 160 feet, with basalt columns on either side, old-growth forest all around and Black Tusk on the skyline. It was built for exactly one purpose, and it has been in use since 2002 with what the company reports as a perfect safety record. That is the pitch; the rest is up to you.
Jumps run every day of the year in every kind of weather, including snow, which puts this on the winter list as well as the summer one. Solo and tandem jumps are available, spectators are welcome on the bridge, and the whole visit takes about an hour.
The bridge, the count and the river
On arrival you sign the waiver, get weighed, and the crew sets the cord for your weight. Harnessed and clipped, you walk out onto the bridge, step onto the edge of the platform and go on the count. The fall is about two seconds, the rebound takes you most of the way back up, and after a few bounces you are lowered to the crew below and walked back up the trail.
Tandem jumps let two people go together, with a combined weight under 300 pounds. Smaller children who are under the solo minimum can jump tandem with an adult. Photos and video of the jump are available as an add-on and are worth it; nobody remembers the view on the way down.
The site is about twenty minutes south of Whistler off the Sea to Sky Highway, on the Cal-Cheak Forest Service Road, and there is no shuttle, so you need a car, taxi or ride share. Book ahead: jumps run by appointment.
