Mountain Top Dining
Up Blackcomb after dark, dinner in a log hut at 6,000 feet and the Village lights far below
Most people only see the Crystal Hut in daylight, as a waffle stop on a ski day. After the lifts close it becomes something else entirely: a candlelit log cabin at the top of Blackcomb, reached by snowmobile or heated snowcat, with fondue on the table, live music in the corner and Whistler Village glittering three thousand feet below the window.
Canadian Wilderness Adventures runs the Mountain Top Fondue as an evening tour through the winter season. Recognised as a Canadian Signature Experience, it is the dinner to book for an anniversary, a last night or any evening you want to remember for the right reasons.
Two ways up, one dinner
The snowmobile option leaves the Village around 6:30pm and is the adventurous version: you ride your own machine up the mountain in the dark, headlights on the snow, with a guide leading. It suits adventurous beginners and intermediate riders and drivers need a full licence. The snowcat option departs a little later in a heated 18-passenger cat, which makes it the right pick for families, groups with non-drivers and anyone who would rather arrive warm.
Dinner is cheese fondue with charcuterie, pan-seared sausage and the Crystal Hut waffle, with live music through the evening. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are available when you book. Afterwards it is back down the mountain the way you came, with the Village lights getting closer the whole way.
New Year's Eve runs as two seatings with adjusted times and books out early every year.
