Vallea Lumina
An hour in an illuminated forest after dark, following two long-lost hikers toward a hidden valley
Vallea Lumina is a walk through the forest at night, except that the forest has been turned into a story. Created by Moment Factory for The Adventure Group, it follows the trail of two hikers who vanished years ago in search of a hidden valley, with light, projection and sound leading you from an abandoned base camp through the trees to the place they were looking for.
It is the one Whistler activity that suits nearly everyone: couples, families with young children, grandparents and groups who want something to do after dinner that is not a bar. Tickets are timed, entries leave every few minutes from sunset, and the walk takes between 45 minutes and an hour.
Base Camp to the hidden valley
The trail is about 1.5 kilometres of forest path with some inclines and stairs, walked at your own pace. It moves through a series of scenes: the base camp, an outpost, a field lab, the forest guardians, a campfire and finally the legend itself, each one built from light and sound that responds as you pass. Benches along the route make it easy to pause.
Because the effect depends on darkness, the first entries in summer can be as late as 10pm around the solstice and earlier as the nights draw in. Book a time and arrive a little before it; the base camp area has somewhere to wait.
Strobe lighting and loud sound effects are used throughout. Strollers are not permitted because of the stairs; a baby carrier works well. Umbrellas are not allowed on the trail, so bring a hood.
