Canoe and Kayak Rentals
Kayaks, canoes and a Voyageur big enough for the whole family, by the hour on Alta Lake
The simplest way to spend a Whistler afternoon is in a boat on Alta Lake. Whistler Eco Tours rents single and double kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and a Voyageur canoe that seats a whole family from Wayside Park, by the hour, the half day or the full day, with paddles and life jackets included.
Paddle north and the lake narrows into the River of Golden Dreams, which experienced paddlers can run self-guided with a shuttle back from Green Lake. Paddle south and there is a beach at Lakeside Park for a swim. Either way the mountains do not leave the view.
Boats for every size of group
Hourly rentals are walk-in from the base at Wayside Park and half and full days can be booked in advance. Single and double kayaks are the quickest to get going in; canoes suit two adults and a child or a pile of picnic gear; the Voyageur canoe takes a big group in one boat, which makes it the family favourite and the choice for a group that wants to stay together.
For experienced paddlers, the self-guided River of Golden Dreams rental is the classic Whistler trip: cross Alta Lake, thread the wetlands and the river, arrive at Green Lake and get shuttled back. Prior paddling experience is required, and from mid July low water adds a portage of about 600 metres. The Green Lake Adventure Paddle is the guided alternative in late summer.
Pedal-and-paddle combinations with bike rental are available if you want to make a day of it, and guided tours include a round-trip shuttle from the Village office.
