The heli-picnic is the simplest luxury Whistler offers. A private helicopter lifts your group out of the valley, flies twelve minutes into the Coast Mountains and sets down beside an alpine lake that has no trail to it. The crew unpacks a gourmet picnic from Picnic Whistler, and for the next forty-five minutes the lake, the glaciers and the silence are yours.
Blackcomb Helicopters runs it from July to September for groups of up to five. It is the obvious choice for an anniversary, a proposal or a birthday, and equally good for a family that wants one afternoon nobody will forget.
Twelve minutes to somewhere private
The flight out crosses the valley and climbs over ridges and glaciers to the landing site, a lakeshore in the alpine chosen for the day's weather. The helicopter shuts down, the picnic comes out and the pilot gives you space. Swim if you are brave; the water is glacial. Walk the shore, take the photographs and eat.
The picnic is a charcuterie lunch of local cheeses, cured meats, breads and sweets from Picnic Whistler and Deli, with bottled water included. Bring your own wine or champagne if the occasion calls for it. Extended flight time can be arranged when you book if you want to see more of the range on the way out or back.
